Technology has had many dramatic changes from the 1960s to now and its impact has been incredible. New technological advancements in the 1960s brought new ways of living with all these new American appliances helping people modernize their lifestyle. Of course only the people with a high standard of living could afford these appliances like radios and televisions and if you owned these appliances you were considered to be quite wealthy and it had quite an overwhelming affect on your social status. Those who could not afford such appliances would go to neighbors houses and use there’s or with televisions they would stand outside of shop windows and watch. The television was used as a social event with people gathering to watch TV shows with neighbors this still happens today. Appliances at this time could cost anywhere between thirty dollars and six hundred dollars this seeming to be quite alot of money at the time. Along with these appliances came increased leisure time and increased family time As this technology developed and changed so did the attitudes and behaviors of most teens There was a growing sense of disillusionment with governments and the ways in which societies were operating. Concerns included those over civil rights, the environment, women’s rights, health issues and the Vietnam War. This resulted in many protests. Today owning technology is taken for granted, majority of us own at least one television, phone and laptop in most cases we own more than one then we have things like the Internet that we all take as a given. Technology no longer increases family time in fact studies show that it is decreasing family time and is to blame for obesity within countries such as America and Australia. Each new generation is becoming more and more tech savvy with children as young as 4 owning phones and knowing how to use ipads. It is now common to eat our food in front of a television and instead of having a conversation with our family watching TV. These days technology is still considered in some ways to be a representation of our social status with those who are in a high standard of living keeping up with the newest technology buying it sooner then those of us with a lower social standard which is an accurate representation of what was happening in the 1960s with only people of a high social status being able to afford and uphold technology. Like in the 1960s when people would invite there neighbors to watch there TV because they couldn't afford one people still use technology as a socializing tool, planning social events like watching big sporting events with friends and neighbors. Times have dramatically change since these technologies were first brought about and along with that there impact on society, families and each individual.
